    Subject Vision:

The Latin curriculum at St Luke’s is designed to inspire a love of language learning in an engaging and stimulating way. We aim to ignite children’s curiosity about Latin and its influence on modern languages while fostering a deeper appreciation of linguistic and cultural diversity.

Through our curriculum, children develop key language skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, enabling them to apply their Latin knowledge in a range of contexts. By exploring the roots of many English and European words, they gain a strong foundation for future language learning, enhancing their vocabulary, comprehension, and confidence in tackling new languages.

Beyond language acquisition, our teaching encourages an understanding of cultural differences, helping children appreciate the richness of ancient and modern societies. By embedding these skills early on, we equip our pupils with the tools to become confident, inquisitive, and globally aware learners.
