Year 1 children were very eager to share their learning in their class assembly this week. They sang ‘Spring Fever’ beautifully, shared their David Hockney art and spoke so clearly when describing the Brooklands trip. The pieces about Brooklands were written by the children themselves. It was also their idea to include the poem about spaghetti because they enjoyed hearing it in class. We are very proud of all they are achieving in Year 1.
During English lessons, ‘Beegu’ is providing lots of inspiration for creative writing. At the beginning of the book, Beegu feels alone in a strange place. The children thought of some amazing vocabulary to describe how she feels and then wrote a description of a ‘friend’ for Beegu.
Maths lessons have moved on to multiplication and division and counting forwards and backwards in twos, fives and tens. As part of their learning, they have enjoyed some practical activities where they estimate a number of objects and then have to check the whole amount by counting in twos, fives or tens.
Deciduous and evergreen trees have been the science topic this week. The children observed different leaves from these trees, drew detailed pictures and then labelled the similarities and differences. This is good preparation for the Year 1 visit to Wisley on 18th June, where they will be able to experience the wonder and variety of trees growing in the gardens.
