Blog for Friday 9^th May 2025

Year 4 have been working hard this week and are embracing their learning about Ancient Egypt. In history, they explored the hierarchy of roles and discussed how this impacted life in Ancient Egypt. 

They have been equally as enthusiastic to transfer this learning to their English lessons where they have been reading ‘Marcy and the Riddle of the Sphinx’. The focus has been on using a range of devices to build tension and suspense such as: short, snappy sentences, show don’t tell and fronted adverbials. Using these devices, they wrote their own narratives of when Marcy entered the cave to save her father. 

In maths, the children have been multiplying and dividing decimal numbers by 10 and 100. They all agreed that having a solid understanding of the place value of numbers was essential for them to be successful. 

In reading workshops this week, rabbits have been the theme and the children have really enjoyed exploring a range of books and poems to celebrate these wonderful animals. They are becoming more confident in class discussions about the chosen texts, which has been wonderful to see. 

Finally, the children have been keen when practising the songs for our key stage 2 production of ‘The Wizard of Oz’.
