Blog for Friday 16^th May 2025

Year 5 have had a busy couple weeks with the trips to enhance their learning in both Science and History/Geography. Last week we visited Holly Lodge in Richmond Park, where we learnt more about mammals - their behaviour, habitats, lifecycle and poo! The children took part in a range of different activities investigating and developing knowledge about the mammals that live in Richmond Park and creating their very own poo based on the mammal of their choice! We even got to see the biggest mammal in the UK - the Red Deer although we did only see the females! 

This week, the children visited the Kingston Museum and History Centre (archives) to learn more about how Kingston has changed over time by looking at different aged maps in the archives and then exploring the rich history that Kingston hosts in the Museum - a particular favourite was experiencing the smells of old Kingston! 

In English, we started our topic focusing on Performance Poetry by studying a poet called Karl Nova who is famous for producing poetry based around rap lyricism which is influenced by Hip Hop.  We have studied a range of his poems and practised performing them in his style by watching videos of his performances. Next week, we will look at his nature inspired poems and turn our hand at writing ones in a similar vein. 

In Maths, we have been looking at angles - measuring them, drawing them, working out angles on a straight line and around a point. We have learnt how to use a protractor effectively and accurately to help us do all this! 

We are continuing to sew our frogs for Design and Technology so watch this space for the final product!
