House System

To help foster a strong sense of community, teamwork and friendly competition, our school is divided into four Houses. Every child is allocated a House when they join the school and remains in that House throughout their time here. Siblings are usually placed in the same House to promote a shared family connection to the team.

Each House is named after a significant local figure or influence, helping children to connect with the rich history and culture of Kingston:

  • Hawker (Blue) – Named after the Hawker Aircraft Company, which once had large factories in Kingston and played a vital role in aviation history, especially during the Second World War. The company designed and built some of the most famous British aircraft, including the Hurricane fighter plane.

  • Picton (Green) – Named after Cesar Picton, who was brought to Britain from Senegal in 1761 at the age of six and later became a successful and wealthy coal merchant based in Kingston. His remarkable story is one of resilience and achievement, and he is celebrated as an important historical figure in the local community.

  • Wilson (Red) – Named after Jacqueline Wilson, the best-selling author of children’s books such as Tracy Beaker and Hetty Feather, who has lived in Kingston for many years. Her stories are loved by children across the country, and she continues to inspire young readers and writers alike.

  • Wookie (Yellow) – Named after actor Peter Mayhew, who grew up in Kingston and is best known for his iconic role as Chewbacca the Wookie in the Star Wars films. His legacy brings a fun and imaginative spirit to the House that bears his name.

Throughout the school year, children earn team points for positive behaviour, effort, kindness, and academic achievement. Points are also awarded during whole-school events such as Sports Day and inter-House competitions. Each week, the House with the highest number of points is announced in our SuperStar Assembly and awarded the House Trophy Shield – a moment of great pride!

In Year 6, pupils have the chance to become House Captains, serving as role models and leading their teams with enthusiasm and integrity. These captains are elected by their House members at the beginning of the academic year.

Our House system is a much-loved part of school life, encouraging belonging, pride, and the celebration of individual and team success.
